Wrong Way Crash With Tanker Truck Kills 2 In Islip
ISLIP, NY - Two men were killed after veering into oncoming traffic and crashing into a tanker truck on Route 111 early Saturday morning.
Two men traveling in a 2020 Honda Accord going southbound on Route 111 near Ironwood Street lost control and veered into oncoming traffic at around 3:35AM, according to Suffolk County Police. The Honda slammed into an oil tanker truck that was traveling northbound when they entered oncoming traffic.
Both the driver and passenger of the Honda were pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released the identity of both victims yet.
The 43-year old driver of the tanker truck was uninjured in the crash. Both the truck and the Honda were impounded by Suffolk County Police to perform safety checks.
