FAR ROCKAWAY, QUEENS, NY - A female pedestrian was struck and killed and a gas line was broken after an NYPD patrol vehicle was involved in a chain-reaction crash at the intersection of Beach Channel Drive and Beach 32nd Street late Friday night.

An NYPD patrol vehicle from the 101st Precinct responding to a call was involved in an apparent chain reaction crash at the intersection of Beach Channel Drive and Beach 32nd Street at around 8:35PM on Friday.

The NYPD vehicle struck a white sedan in the intersection causing the police car to continue, jump the curb, and strike a pedestrian walking nearby. The patrol vehicle also crashed into and broke a gas line, then finally slammed into a parked car in a shopping center parking lot before coming to a stop.

The 52-year-old woman was transported to a local area hospital where she was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

At least two police officers suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash and were transported to another local area hospital to be treated.

NationalGrid was requested to the scene to repair the broken gas line.

The officers in the involved police car were responding to assist other police officers at a nearby foot pursuit for a wanted person in the area of Beach Channel Drive and Beach 51st Street when they were involved in the crash.

The crash is still currently under investigation.
