SUV Crashes Into Commack Shoe Store, 4 Hurt

COMMACK, NEW YORK - Four people shopping suffered minor injuries after an SUV crashed into the storefront of Craft Shoes on Jericho Turnpike late Thursday afternoon.

At around 2:45PM on Thursday, June 8, 2023, the Suffolk County Police Department, Commack Fire Department, and Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the busy shopping center at 6149 Jericho Turnpike, Commack, NY 11725 after 911 calls were placed to emergency services reporting a car that crashed into the front of a commercial building.

First responders swiftly arrived on scene and assessed the incident. According to eyewitnesses, the black SUV went up and over the curb inside the shopping center after the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the storefront of Craft Shoes. Craft Shoes is a family-owned shoe store that’s been a community staple since 1967 in Commack, New York.

Shattered glass, broken metal, and bricks were sent flying inside the store and could be seen scattered around the outside of the retail store from where the vehicle entered. The store's interior was left in disarray after multiple displays were damaged and knocked over. While the damage to the storefront was significant, there was no reported damage to the structural integrity of the entire commercial building.

Volunteer firefighters and medical personnel evaluated four people that were inside the store shopping at the time of the crash.

All four of those victims were transported to local area hospitals with minor, non-life-threatening injuries subsequent to the crash.

The driver of the SUV was uninjured.
