Suffolk County Man Arrested For Hit and Run That Killed 72-Year Old Massapequa Woman

MASSAPEQUA, NY - Police arrested a Ridge man for the fatal hit and run that left a 72-year old Massapequa woman dead after crossing the street in November 2021.

Nassau County Police released on Wednesday that they arrested Nicholas S. Abbaj, 59, of Ridge, New York in connection with the death of Arlene Fierro, a 72-year old woman who was struck and killed by Abbaj’s Ford pickup truck while crossing the road at the intersection of Front Street and Park Lane in Massapequa on November 15, 2021.

Nassau County Police officials say that Abbaj was driving the truck that hit Fierro and he fled the scene, leaving the 72-year old woman in the roadway with critical injuries. Fierro was transported to the hospital where she died from her injuries on December 1st.

Abbaj is scheduled to be arraigned later Wednesday at the FIrst District Court in Hempstead, New York.
