Merrick Bank Robbery Prompts School Lockouts

MERRICK, NY - Schools went on “lockout” early Wednesday afternoon after a bank robbery on the corner of Merrick Avenue N and Smith Street in Merrick, New York.

Nassau County Police responded to the Roslyn Savings Bank located at 2111 Merrick Avenue in Merrick after a bank robbery occurred at 1:15PM. The man approached a teller with a note demanding cash, according to investigators. Four employees and two customers were inside the bank while the robbery occurred. Police say there were no injuries.

There has not been any word on the proceeds from the robbery or a description of the suspect or suspects involved.

The Chatterton School went on “lockout" after the robbery. The lockouts have been lifted and schools have resumed normal operations in the area.

A police crime scene unit was on scene at 56 Merrick Ave, where unknown evidence was recovered from the suspect of the robbery.
