Strong Chemical Odor Sickens At Least 3 in Rockville Centre Senior Apartments

At least 3 residents were hospitalized after a strong chemical odor was reported in a senior apartment complex in Rockville Centre, New York late Sunday afternoon.

Multiple emergency service agencies responded to Halandia Court, a senior apartment community at 266 N Centre Avenue in Rockville Centre, New York at around 2:50PM for a report of a strong chemical odor in the occupied apartment complex.

At least 3 people were treated for symptoms related to feeling ill by the chemical odor. Those three victims were transported to NYU-Long Island Hospital and South Nassau Hospital to be further treated. The entire complex was evacuated as a precaution and to avoid further sickness to other residents.

The Rockville Centre Fire Department requested additional ambulances to respond to the scene and requested the help of the Lynbrook Fire Department to assist in evacuating the remaining residents in the building.

The unidentified chemical odor prompted the response of the Nassau County Fire Marshals, who are currently investigating the incident at this time.
