Teen Airlifted After Injury in Dirt Bike Crash at Motocross Track in Ronkonkoma

Two teens were injured in a dirt bike crash while at a popular motocross track in Ronkonkoma, New York early Sunday afternoon.

According to Suffolk County Police, Christopher Schmidt was riding a dirt bike at around 12:45PM Sunday afternoon when he rode his bike over a ramp and his rear tire hit Michael Morelle. Police say Morelle was picking up his dirt bike at the time of the crash.

Schmidt, 13, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital to be further treated for serious injuries sustained from the crash. Morelle, 18, was struck in the face and was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital also, but with what police described as “non-life threatening” injuries.

The crash happened at 10th Street Motocross, a popular 6-acre area for dirt bike riders.

Suffolk County Police Department’s 5th Squad Detectives are continuing an investigation into the crash. Police say anybody with information pertinent to the crash can call 631-854-8552.
