Roosevelt Field Mall Robbery Suspect Arrested After Displaying Knife

EAST GARDEN CITY, NY - A Hempstead man was arrested after attempting to steal a bag full of clothes and brandishing a knife at loss prevention officers when confronted at Roosevelt Field Mall early Saturday morning.

Nassau County Police responded to the Roosevelt Field Mall at around 10:00AM on Saturday morning after Antwain D. Key, 32, of Hempstead, displayed a knife at Macy’s loss prevention officers after attempting to steal a bag full of clothing from the store.

Police say that two loss prevention officers observed Key load up a bag with jackets and sweaters before exiting and passing all points of purchase without paying. The loss prevention officers confronted Key in the parking lot and stopped him when he pulled out a knife and displayed it towards them. Key then fled and headed towards the upper deck of the parking garage.

Nassau County Police Department 3rd Precinct officers responded and were able to locate Key on the upper deck, placing him into custody without any incident.

There were no injuries reported.

Key is charged with Attempted Robbery 1st Degree, Burglary 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, False Personation, Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree, Menacing 2nd Degree. He was arraigned at the First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.

Police also say that Key was previously arrested on January 25, 2022 and charged with 4 counts of Burglary 3rd Degree. He was released on January 26, 2022 with no cash bail.
