Rittenhouse Verdict Sparks Small Protest in Bellmore

Protesters and counter-protesters organized in front of the Bellmore Long Island Railroad Station on Saturday as both sides react to the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict.

Opposition and support for the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict gathered along Sunrise Highway in Bellmore, New York at around 1PM. Signs and flags were waved as motorists honked their horns in support of both sides. In some cases, passing drivers yelled from their vehicles and taunted demonstrators both from the opposition and supportive sides of the protest.

At one point, a group of illegal off-road dirt bikes and ATVs drove recklessly through the supporting side’s area of demonstration, taunting both counter-protesters and the police.

Organizers and members of Long Island Peaceful Protest, a non-profit organization protesting for racial equality across Long Island, marched through residential streets of Bellmore, addressing residents who were outside of their homes and attempting to engage in discussion with them.

Opposition and support squared off in a tense debate in front of residences on Wilson Avenue. Both sides had to be separated by Nassau County Police, who kept the demonstrations peaceful. Police were forced to separate both sides on either sidewalk to march next to each other after arguments persisted.

A small, polite discussion between a protester and counter-protester, away from the heated arguments, revealed that there could be a peaceful discussion between those who disagree amid the anger.
