Pursuit With Abduction Suspect From Suffolk County Ends In Brooklyn, 5 Officers Injured
DYKER HEIGHTS, NY - Suffolk County Police pursued a driver suspected of abducting a woman in Suffolk County at knifepoint. The pursuit came to an end at 12th Ave & 86th St in Brooklyn, injuring multiple officers late Wednesday night.
Suffolk County Police say that Holmark Garces forced a woman into his 1999 Toyota Corolla at knifepoint while she was walking home in Brentwood at around 8:35PM on Wednesday. The victim was known to Garces and allegedly was his girlfriend.
Multiple witnesses called 911 and reported the crime to police.
Suffolk County Police patrol units spotted the vehicle and Garces driving eastbound on the Southern State Parkway later that night. Officers attempted to pull Garces over, but he evaded police and led officers on a pursuit going westbound towards New York City.
Officers chased the suspect through Nassau County, Queens and into Brooklyn where the suspect finally was cornered by NYPD and SCPD officers. New York State Police Troopers assisted both departments at the scene.
At 10:57PM, NYPD 68th Precinct officers took the suspect into custody near the intersection of 12th Avenue & 86th Street in Dyker Heights.
Multiple police cars were damaged after officers boxed the suspect’s vehicle in.
Three police officers were injured as Garces car collided with police cruisers. Two additional police officers were injured while taking the suspect into custody.
All five officers sustained only minor injuries and were transported to Maimonides Medical Center where they were treated and released.
Garces, 33, of Bay Shore, was charged by the NYPD. Following his arraignment, he will be transferred to Suffolk County, where he will be charged with Kidnapping 2nd Degree and Criminal Contempt 1st Degree, and will be arraigned at a later date.
