Prominent Lawyer Stabbed To Death By Client After Refusing Case

QUEENS, NY - A prominent immigration lawyer from Great Neck was stabbed to death by his client after he allegedly refused to take her case on Monday afternoon.

NYPD responded to 136-56 39th Avenue in Flushing at around 11:40AM for a 911 call reporting an assault in progress. NYPD officers arriving on the scene found an unresponsive 66-year old man with multiple stab wounds to his body and neck laying inside an office.

EMS responded and urgently transported the victim to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The client accused of murdering the immigration lawyer was identified as Xiaoning Zhang, of Queens. Zhang was arrested and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

According to police, Jim Li was working on Zhang’s case for two months and was considering recusing himself.

Jim Li was a prominent immigration attorney in the community who had also protested in Tiananmen Square back in 1989 during the student democracy movement. He was jailed by the Chinese government for nearly two years as a graduate law student.
