Possible Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Kills Man, Hospitalizes Woman

A man was killed and a woman is in a serious, but stable condition after a possible carbon monoxide emergency in a Copiague, New York residence late Monday night.

The North Amityville Fire Company responded to a residence on the corner of 41st Street and Atlantic Street in Copiague, New York just after 8:30PM on Monday night for a call of a possible carbon monoxide emergency.

When first responders arrived on the scene, they found two victims suffering from the effects of a suspected carbon monoxide emergency inside the residence.

One victim, a 79-year old man, was found dead at the scene by police officers as a result of the incident. A 49-year old woman, the second victim, was transported urgently to a local area hospital for further medical treatment. She remains in a critical, but stable condition, according to Suffolk Police.

Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding the possible CO emergency. There is no criminality suspected in this case, according to detectives.
