Pedestrian Struck, Critically Injured While Crossing Old Country Road

CARLE PLACE, NY - A 43-year-old woman crossing Old Country Road at Zeckendorf Boulevard was urgently rushed to a local area hospital in a critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Tuesday morning.

At around 8:50AM on the morning of Tuesday, June 6, 2023, a 43-year-old female pedestrian was crossing Old Country Road going southbound at Zeckendorf Boulevard when she was struck by a 2016 Toyota RAV4 SUV. The vehicle was operated by a 73-year-old woman. Investigators say that the Toyota RAV4 was traveling northbound on Zeckendorf Boulevard and turned westbound onto Old Country Road when the collision with the pedestrian occurred.

The pedestrian suffered a traumatic injury to her head and was transported to a local area hospital where she is now listed as in a critical condition, according to the Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene of the crash.

Officials say that the investigation is currently ongoing.

A pedestrian, who wished to remain anonymous, told Priority News Network correspondents at the scene of the crash that this is not the first time an incident like this has occurred around this area of Old Country Road in Carle Place, New York.

"It's almost impossible to cross [Old Country Road] as a pedestrian at any time of the day. You take your life into your own hands and just hope that someone's face isn't stuck in their phone when it's your time to cross. You could be doing everything right and then someone comes along and hits you."
