Driver Rescued From Overturned Vehicle After Colliding With Parked Car

COPIAGUE, NY - A driver was rescued by the Copiague Fire Department from an overturned car after colliding with a parked car on Campagnoli Avenue near Verrazano Avenue late Monday night.

On Monday, June 5, 2023 at around 9:00PM, a Subaru sedan was traveling on the residential street of Campagnoli Avenue near the intersection of Verrazano Avenue in Copiague, New York when the driver collided with a parked vehicle. The force of the crash caused the Subaru to overturn onto its driver's side, trapping the driver inside the car and requiring the local fire department to respond to the scene.

The Copiague Fire Department responded to the scene of the crash and confirmed that there was a patient still inside the vehicle that was in need of extrication. Firefighters assessed the situation and used struts on both sides of the Subaru sedan to stabilize it, preventing it from moving while rescuers attempted to extricate the patient.

Firefighters were able to cut the windshield of the vehicle off to successfully free the driver. After being removed from the vehicle, EMS personnel evaluated the driver.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses at the scene of the rollover crash said that the driver was conscious while fire crews were on scene and in the process of extricating the patient.

Officials from the Suffolk County Police Department have not released any specific details about the cause of the crash or events leading up to it.
