Multiple Garbage Trucks Destroyed In Late Night Blaze
HUNTINGTON, NY - Firefighters battled an intense fire involving at least six Town of Huntington garbage trucks late Saturday night.
Multiple 911 calls were placed just after 11:00PM on Saturday night reporting numerous explosions from a Town of Huntington facility on Boxer Court in Huntington, New York. Other calls to 911 reported smoke and flames coming from the yard shortly after explosions were heard.
When firefighters and police officers arrived on scene, they found multiple Town of Huntington garbage trucks fully involved in flames. Firefighters began battling the blaze by using the deck gun and foam lines.
The fire was swiftly brought under control by the Huntington Manor Fire Department and Huntington Fire Department shortly after crews arrived on scene.
An investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the fire that left the six garbage trucks destroyed.
According to Town of Huntington Supervisor Ed Smyth, the fire does not appear to be suspicious. Six of the Town’s fifteen garbage trucks were completely destroyed. Supervisor Smyth said that despite the loss of nearly half the fleet, the Town can stick to regularly scheduled garbage pickups.
