YAPHANK, NY - Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison announced on Tuesday afternoon the creation of a multi-agency task force to investigate the Gilgo Beach homicides.

Since taking the position recently as Suffolk County Police Commissioner, Harrison pledged to solve the 11-year old homicides.

"This is a commitment," said Harrison in January after being confirmed as commissioner. "A relentless pursuit to identify the individuals and bring them to justice. And that's for the family members to hear."

With Commissioner Harrison’s commitment to finding answers in the homicides, the Gilgo Beach Homicide Investigation Task Force was created. The task force is made up of investigators from departments such as the FBI, New York State Police, Suffolk County Police Department’s Homicide Squad, Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office.

This task force will use new scientific advancements to pursue the investigation further. Evidence from throughout the decades will be looked at in new ways.

According to officials, the primary goal is the still identify the person or people responsible for the killings. The focus will be to identify the remaining victims to bring answers to the families.

“As I said on day one as police commissioner, I believe this case is solvable, and identifying the person or people responsible for these murders is a top priority” said Harrison.

This task force will be the first of its kind, with representatives from federal, state, and local agencies coming together to solve a nationally known serial killer case.
