Houston Police Chief Briefly Met With Travis Scott
As memorials and funerals are being organized for the eight victims killed at the “AstroWorld” festival that occurred on November 5th, 2021, more details are emerging into the events leading up to the concert.
Houston Police Chief Troy Finner met briefly with Travis Scott, the AstroWorld organizer, and his head of security Friday, prior to the concert. During this meeting, Chief Finner expressed his concerns over public safety for the attendees of the event.
The investigation reportedly could take “weeks”, according to Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. The investigation is still ongoing and will be looking into circumstances and details surrounding the key causes of the surge, which include barriers and crowd control operations by event staff.
History of Disorder at Concerts
On two prior occasions, rapper Travis Scott was arrested on charges related to reckless conduct and instigating disorder at his events.
In 2017, at an Arkansas event, Travis Scott encouraged his fans to bypass security and crowd control barriers to come up to the stage. This resulted in the injuries of a security guard, a police officer, and several other people, according to reports from the scene.
Following a 2015 “Lollapalooza” music festival incident, Travis Scott pleaded guilty to reckless conduct charges in Chicago after inviting fans to rush to the front of the stage and to bypass any crowd control measures. There were no injuries reported from this incident according to the Associated Press.
