Firefighters Injured In Explosive Levittown House Fire

LEVITTOWN, NY - At least two firefighters were injured after an explosion occurred while firefighters were battling a house fire on Holmes Street late Sunday afternoon.

At around 2:20PM, the Wantagh Fire Department responded to reports of smoke from a house located on Holmes Street. When units arrived on scene, flames were seen pushing out the front of the house.

While crews were battling the blaze, an explosion occurred inside the garage, knocking firefighters to the ground. All firefighters were pulled from the inside of the residence and began an exterior attack on the fire.

At least two firefighters were minorly injured from the explosion and were transported to a local area hospital.

Levittown Fire Department, East Meadow Fire Department, Seaford Fire Department, Bethpage Fire Department, and Massapequa Fire Department were all requested and responded to the scene to assist with battling the inferno.

The cause of the fire and explosion are currently under investigation.
