Stubborn Compactor Fire Burns Behind Busy Plainview Shopping Center

PLAINVIEW, NY - Firefighters combated a stubborn fire inside of a trash compactor behind the businesses in the Woodbury Plaza shopping center on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters from the Plainview Fire Department responded to the Woodbury Plaza shopping center located at 407 S Oyster Bay Rd, Plainview, NY 11803 at around 1:20PM on Monday after a fire broke out inside an outside trash compactor.

The compactor, mostly containing cardboard, continued to burn while firefighters attempted to expose the areas of burning contents inside.

A heavy wrecker tow truck was eventually called in to raise the back end of the compactor and allow for the firefighters to better access the burning items inside.

The fire was brought under control and there was no reported damage to any businesses in the shopping center.

There were also no reported injuries as a result of the fire.
