Devastating 5-Alarm Fire Destroys Popular Long Island Flower Shop

WOODBURY, NY - A raging 5-alarm fire completely destroyed a popular Long Island flower shop late Sunday afternoon as the blaze spread to a nearby house and vegetation.

At around 2:35PM, the Syosset Fire Department was notified of a commercial building fire at 300 Woodbury Rd, Woodbury, NY 11797 with flames fully engulfing the entire front of the business.

The intense fire broke out inside of Jack & Rose Florist, a popular full-service floral design company that serves many communities throughout Long Island and New York City.

Within minutes of firefighters operating on the scene of the blaze, the fire was upgraded to a 2nd Alarm. Multiple fire departments were requested to assist with battling the blaze.

Embers from the devastating fire sparked a large brush fire immediately across the street from the flower shop. Fire crews tackled both fires to prevent further destruction.

While firefighters were battling the brush fire and the original commercial fire, an ember sparked a small blaze on the exterior of a residential home located directly next to the flower shop. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading further.

The fire escalated to as high as a 5th Alarm, prompting fire departments as far west as Elmont to respond and assist.

The fire was brought under control by multiple fire departments at around 4:28PM, just short of two hours firefighters spent operating at the scene.

At least one firefighter was medically evaluated at the scene as a result of fighting the fire.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is under investigation.
