Firefighters Battle 2-Alarm House Fire In Woodmere

WOODMERE, NY - Firefighters battled a 2-alarm fire that sent flames through the roof of the house on Church Avenue in Woodmere early Monday afternoon. Two people were treated for smoke inhalation as a result of the blaze.

At around 12:10PM on Monday afternoon, the Woodmere Fire Department was called for an automatic fire alarm that was activated in a residence on Church Avenue, north of Raleigh Street in Woodmere, New York. The fire department upgraded the initial call and confirmed that there was an active fire in the house when units arrived on scene.

Within only a few minutes of operating on the scene, the fire department upgraded the blaze to a second alarm as flames shot through the roof of the home. Long Beach, Rockville Centre, Elmont, and Freeport Fire Departments were all called to assist with battling the fire.

Two people suffered from smoke inhalation as a result of the fire and were treated. It is unknown if they were transported to local area hospitals for further treatment.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
