Fallen FDNY, Long Island Volunteer Firefighter William Moon Remembered

SYOSSET, NY - Firefighters from the Syosset Fire Department were one of many departments that set up arches bearing the American flag in memory of fallen FDNY Firefighter William Moon on Wednesday afternoon.

As the dignified transfer procession left the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Manhattan, New York, and headed for the Long Island Expressway eastbound on Wednesday afternoon, hundreds of firefighters set up flag arches on the overpasses above the expressway and other major roadways in memory of the fallen FDNY firefighter.

FDNY Firefighter William Moon suffered severe head trauma during a training exercise last week after falling about 20 feet.

William P. Moon, a 21-year veteran of the FDNY, and a volunteer firefighter at the Islip Fire Department in his hometown of Islip, New York, saved the lives of five people after his organs were donated.

Moon was 47 years old and is survived by his wife and their two children.

Moon joined the FDNY in May 2002 and started his career in Ladder Company 133 in Queens. He worked in Ladder Company 133 for 20 years before joining Rescue Company 2, in Brooklyn earlier this year.
