Engine Ripped From Vehicle In Fatal Christmas Crash, 6 Hurt

HEMPSTEAD, NY - An engine was ripped from a vehicle after a violent fatal crash involving four vehicles occurred at Henry Street and Greenwich Street on Christmas night.

Hempstead Police Department officers responded to Henry Street and Greenwich Street at around 6:06PM after four vehicles were involved in a crash, injuring six people and killing one.

Police say that the 61-year-old driver of the 2014 Volkswagen that lost its engine was killed in the crash. No identity has been released yet.

Nassau County Police say that there were 6 other victims that were transported to local area hospitals in various conditions, including three teenagers and a young girl.

Investigators say that the 37-year-old driver of the 2008 Acura MXD that the Volkswagen slammed into suffered “serious leg injuries”. The driver of the 2014 BMW, a 63-year-old man, suffered trauma injuries to his arm and body.

Officials say that the Volkswagen was involved in a collision with the 2008 Acura at around 6:06PM. There were two teenagers inside the Volkswagen, a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy. Police say that both victims suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local area hospital.

The driver of the Acura suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. The 37-year-old passenger was uninjured, while the two children were transported to a local area hospital to be treated for minor lacerations.

After the two-car collision, the Acura struck a 2013 Ford Explorer that was heading westbound on Greenwich Street and was stopped while waiting to turn on Henry Street. The driver of the explorer was not injured.

Following the second collision, the Volkswagen struck the BMW that was heading southbound on Henry Street.

According to police, the cause of the crash still remains under investigation.
