Bicyclist Struck, Killed On Route 110

NORTH AMITYVILLE, NY - A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle that remained at the scene late Monday night on Route 110 near Ritter Avenue.

Suffolk County Police, alongside the North Amityville Fire Company and Stony Brook University Hospital’s EMS, responded to the call at around 11:10PM on Route 110 north of Ritter Avenue where a bicyclist was struck and seriously injured by a vehicle that remained at the scene.

Suffolk Police say a man was riding his bicycle from west to east across Route 110 near Ritter Avenue when he was struck by a northbound traveling 2009 Toyota Camry.

The victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. The driver of the Toyota was uninjured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

The victim was identified as Russell Squires, 53, of North Amityville.
