2 Firefighters, 1 Civilian Hurt In Intense House Fire

COPIAGUE, NY - Two firefighters were injured, a dog and a civilian suffered burns after a massive fire broke out inside a Copiague home on Surf Road late Tuesday night.

At around 10:39PM, the Copiague Fire Department was notified of a house fire with people trapped and burned on Surf Road near the dead end.

Firefighters arrived on scene and confirmed that all occupants of the house were able to get out, but there was still a report of a dog trapped inside the burning house.

Copiague firefighters made their way to the side of the house and were able to rescue the trapped dog.

A medevac helicopter from Suffolk County was requested to airlift the burn victim, but emergency medical personnel transported the victim to a local area hospital’s burn center by ambulance. The victim suffered second and third-degree burns on their hands and chest as a result of the fire.

A dog was transported to an emergency veterinary hospital to be treated for burns. A second dog was uninjured.

Two firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
