3 Critically Injured, Rescued By Firefighters In Elmont House Fire
ELMONT, NY - Three people suffered critical injuries after being trapped inside a burning house on Oakley Avenue late Friday night. Firefighters pulled all three victims from the fire.
Just before 9:30PM, firefighters from multiple fire departments and Nassau County Police responded to Oakley Avenue near E Street in Elmont, New York for a house fire with people trapped inside.
Police officers arrived after the 911 calls were placed and attempted to enter the basement. The officers were met with heavy smoke and intense heat, which pushed them back outside the house.
Firefighters arrived on scene and immediately jumped into action to rescue the three victims that were trapped inside the house still.
Two men and a woman were rescued from the home and were transported to local area hospitals with burns and smoke inhalation. All three are still in critical condition.
Among the destruction, a dog was also killed in the fire.
The fire was knocked down at around 11:00PM and placed under control by multiple fire crews at the scene.
Two firefighters were injured while battling the fire. One firefighter suffered from a burn to the ear and another one suffered an elbow injury.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
