Dump Truck Overturns, Traps Driver In Long Island Expressway Crash

MELVILLE, NY - A driver had to be extricated after a dump truck rolled over onto its side while exiting the Long Island Expressway onto Broadhollow Road on Monday afternoon.

Just before 12:30PM, a dump truck carrying dirt traveling westbound on the Long Island Expressway rolled over onto its driver’s side when using the Exit 49S ramp. The driver of the truck was trapped inside the overturned truck as a result.

Only minutes later, the Melville Fire Department was able to extricate the driver successfully from the vehicle. The driver was transported to a nearby area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The ramp to Exit 49S remained closed by the New York State Department of Transportation and Suffolk County Police Highway Patrol while multiple heavy wreckers responded to upright the vehicle and clean up the spilled dirt.
