Man Robs Second Suffolk County Bank After Leaving First Bank Empty-Handed

MELVILLE, NY - Police are searching for a man that attempted to rob an East Farmingdale bank and successfully robbed a Melville bank on Friday morning.

Suffolk County Police say that at 9:42AM, a man entered the Bethpage Federal Credit Union bank located at 1033 Route 109 in East Farmingdale, New York and passed a note to the teller demanding cash. The teller at the bank stood up to the would-be thief and did not comply with his demands.

The suspect fled the East Farmingdale bank on foot after leaving empty-handed.

Police say just 20 minutes later, the persistent robber entered a second Bethpage Federal Credit Union bank, this one located at 501 Walt Whitman Road in Melville, New York, where he passed another note to the teller demanding cash. This time, the teller complied and the man left with an undisclosed amount of money.

Officials say that the bank robber is described as a 6-foot tall, thin black male, between 25 and 35 years old. Investigators say that the man was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and maroon pants at the time of the robbery.

Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit are asking anyone with information on the incidents to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555 or to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS to report a crime anonymously.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
