Driver Arrested For DWI After Causing Multi-Vehicle Crash In Lindenhurst
LINDENHURST, NEW YORK - A Huntington Station man accused of driving while intoxicated was arrested at the scene after causing a serious crash that left multiple people injured at the intersection of Montauk Highway and Kramer Drive late Friday night.
According to law enforcement officials, Lester Calix, a 25 year old resident of Huntington Station, New York, is believed to have caused the collision that left multiple people injured as a result. Suffolk County Police officers and the Lindenhurst Fire Department responded to the intersection of Montauk Highway and Kramer Drive at approximately 10:10PM on Friday night after 911 calls reported the crash. It was initially reported that at least one person was trapped inside of a vehicle and that there was a fuel spill at the scene.
The trapped victim was able to be freed from the vehicle as police arrived on scene.
Police say that Calix attempted to make a left turn when his vehicle collided with an eastbound traveling sedan. The impact of the crash sent Calix's car careening into a pickup truck before ultimately crashing into a utility pole, resulting in extensive damage to the vehicles involved.
Several people were injured as a result and were evaluated by the multiple fire departments that responded to the scene to assist. Police say that all victims involved in the crash suffered only minor injuries.
Upon further investigation, officers suspected that Calix was operating his vehicle while under the influence. Officers placed Calix under arrest and charged him with driving while intoxicated.
