1 Hurt After Car Overturns In Plainview Crash

PLAINVIEW, NEW YORK - Nassau County Police and the Plainview Fire Department responded to Cherry Drive West early Thursday morning after a two vehicle crash left one car overturned onto its roof and the driver with minor injuries.

The Nassau County Police Department and Plainview Fire Department were notified of a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision with overturn and entrapment on Cherry Drive West, between John Street and Wallace Drive, in Plainview, New York at around 8:30AM on Thursday, June 29, 2023.

After being involved in a collision, the Toyota sedan overturned onto its roof, temporarily trapping the driver inside on the residential street. Police and fire department personnel rushed to the scene after it was initially reported that the vehicle was overturned and the driver was trapped inside. Emergency services arrived on scene and found that the driver was able to free themselves from the upside down car before they arrived.

The driver of the overturned vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local area hospital for further medical evaluation. The driver of the second vehicle involved was not injured.

Police officers from Nassau County Police Department's Emergency Services Unit (ESU) responded to the scene. Officers strategically evaluated the situation and determined the best course of action to upright the car. Chains and hooks were attached to the vehicle to roll it back over onto its wheels and upright it to allow for traffic to resume on the residential street.

The vehicle was swiftly uprighted and traffic eventually resumed back to normal when the first responders cleared the scene.
