Church Damaged By Fire, Firefighters Rescue Religious Items

BETHPAGE, NY - Firefighters battled a fire that broke out inside the St. Isodoros Greek Orthodox Church on Tuesday afternoon. Multiple religious items were rescued by firefighters and congregants as firefighters brought the fire under control.

Just after 1:45PM on Tuesday afternoon, the Bethpage Fire Department and Nassau County Police Department responded to the St. Isodoros Greek Orthodox Church located at 910 Stewart Ave, Bethpage, NY 11714 after passerbys reported smoke coming from the church.

Firefighters arrived on scene with police and confirmed that there was smoke coming from the church. When firefighters opened the building, heavy smoke poured out as crews made entry inside.

Multiple fire departments, including the Syosset Fire Department, South Farmingdale Fire Department, Levittown Fire Department, Plainview Fire Department, and the Hicksville Fire Department all responded to the scene to assist with battling the fire.

Firefighters and congregation members of the church were able to recover and rescue a large number of religious items from the damaged church.

The fire was brought under control by fire crews at around 2:30PM.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

There were no reported injuries as a result of this fire.
