Car Slams Into Deer Park Building, Street Racing Possibly To Blame
DEER PARK, NY - Police and firefighters responded to a vehicle that lost control and slammed into a building after allegedly being involved in street racing late Friday night on West Industry Court.
The Suffolk County Police Department received a 911 call reporting a car that struck a building at 160 West Industry Court just before 11:00PM on Friday night. Officers arrived on scene and discovered a yellow Chevrolet Camaro that had left the roadway and collided with the east side of the building.
A witness to the crash recalled that the vehicle lost control, crashed into a curb, drove up a small hill, and finally drove into the side of the building before coming to a stop. Workers in nearby businesses stated that the industrial area has become a hot spot for cars to race and meet in large groups.
According to witnesses of the crash, the vehicle was allegedly involved in street racing or some type of “car meet-up” with other vehicles before losing control and crashing. When Suffolk County Police officers arrived, the other vehicles left the scene.
The force of the crash left a sizable hole in the side of the building and caused heavier damage to the office space inside. Desks, files, and other objects were launched across the room as a result.
At least one person was transported to a local area hospital as a result of minor injuries from the crash.
