Burglary Suspect Shot By Police In Garden City

GARDEN CITY, NY - Nassau County Police officers were involved in a shooting early Sunday morning on Old Country Road in Garden City a after 911 call reported two men attempting to break into a nearby Verizon store.

Nassau County Police 3rd Precinct officers were involved in a shooting just before 3:00AM on Sunday morning. Officers were responding to a 911 call reporting a burglary at the Verizon store located at 880 Old Country Rd, Garden City, NY 11530. Police say that the 911 caller told officers that one of the suspects allegedly pointed a gun at him.

Officers approached a suspect matching the description near the intersection of Bert Avenue and Old Country Road in Westbury. The suspect was wearing all black and a baseball cap. According to Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, the suspect turned on the officers and they fired at him, striking him in the ankle.

Bullet holes could be seen in the windshield of a police car on the scene near the intersection where the shooting took place.

Two police officers were transported to Nassau University Medical Center to be treated for trauma related to the shooting.

The suspect was transported to Nassau University Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his ankle.

Jonathan Parra, 26, of 92 Maplewood Drive, Westbury is being charged with two counts of Menacing 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned at a later date, according to police.
