At Least 25 Cars Destroyed, 2 Firefighters Hurt in Melville Hotel Lot Fire
More than 25 cars were destroyed in a massive, fast moving fire in the rear lot of the Hilton Hotel in Melville, New York just before 3pm Monday afternoon.
An estimated $1 Million of damage was caused to spare vehicles sitting in a rear lot of the Hilton Hotel at 598 Broadhollow Road in Melville, New York. Fire crews responded after large plumes of black smoke were spotted coming from the fenced off lot towards the rear of the hotel.
After arriving on the scene, firefighters began to fight the quick moving fire to prevent further spread to other cars. The lot itself contained more than 1,000 cars that were parked in close proximity to each other, allowing the fire to spread faster.
Melville Fire Chief David Kaplan commented that the estimated damage was over $1 Million.
A combination of 60 firefighters battled the raging flames in the parking lot and the fire was contained within the hour.
An East Farmingdale firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion, and a Melville firefighter suffered an eye injury and was brought to Plainview Hospital to be treated.
There is no criminality suspected in this fire.
