Ambulette Catches Fire In Levittown Shopping Center
LEVITTOWN, NY - An ambulette caught fire while parked in front of an optometrist office in a Levittown shopping center late Thursday morning.
Police and firefighters rushed to the scene of an ambulette fire at around 10:45AM. Emergency services responded to 3375 Hempstead Turnpike, a shopping center with multiple businesses after the vehicle caught on fire while parked in front of America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses. Initial reports said that there was a person in a wheelchair trapped inside the ambulette, but they were able to exit before flames engulfed the whole van.
Firefighters battled the fire to prevent it from spreading to the building that the van was parked in front of. Nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution. The optometrist office was ventilated by firefighters due to heavy smoke that accumulated inside.
There were no reported injuries from the fire.
