Failed Knife-Point Robbery Results In 3 Arrested, Found Stolen Car in Westbury

Police arrested three suspects who fled the scene after an attempted knifepoint robbery took place on Dartmouth Avenue in Westbury, New York late Thursday night.

Nassau County Police responded to Dartmouth Avenue in Westbury, New York just after 11PM for a report of an attempted robbery by three men. A 38-year old man was walking down the street when two men approached him and demanded his wallet and money. Investigators say that the victim refused to give the would-be thieves his wallet and screamed for help before the two men fled the scene.

Nassau County Police say they saw a grey Mazda speed off near the intersection of Linden Avenue and Union Avenue, which prompted officers to attempt to make a traffic stop.

The driver of the vehicle stopped and all three men left the car, fleeing on foot from police.

Police were able to take all three suspects into custody shortly after deploying K-9 units and a helicopter. One suspect was taken into custody at gunpoint by police officers near the intersection of Maple Avenue and School Street. The suspect was spotted hiding behind a van by the Nassau County Police helicopter that was overhead.

After further investigation by police, it was determined that the Mazda had been reported stolen earlier in the month from Roosevelt, New York.

Daniel Padilla, 33, of Roosevelt, Carlos Licona, 32, of Hicksville, and Kevin Arriola, 20, were all arrested by Nassau County Police. Each of the men were charged with Attempted Robbery in the 1st Degree, Attempted Robbery in the 2nd Degree, and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle.

Additionally, Lincona and Padilla, who displayed knives when approaching the victim, were charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree.
