3 Arrested After 22 Illegal Guns, Bomb Making Materials Found in Long Island Home
Nassau County Police arrested 3 individuals in a Farmingdale, New York home on Wednesday after finding a large amount of unregistered firearms and bomb making materials.
Police received an anonymous 911 call for the well-being of a resident inside of the Farmingdale house on Staples Street. Upon arriving on the scene, 8th Precinct police officers came across a man acting “out of control” and threatening to shoot himself. According to Nassau County Police Department Commissioner Patrick Ryder, the 8th precinct officers were able to “verbally de-escalate” the situation and calm the agitated man down.
The police officers recognized the dangerous materials, in both chemical and liquid form, in addition to a book titled “The Preparatory Manual of Explosives Fourth Edition, Volume 1.” After discovering the materials, the officers then ordered everybody out of the house and notified a supervisor.
A search warrant for the residence was obtained and the FBI, Arson/Bomb Squad, Emergency Services Unit, and Narcotics units entered the home.
After an extensive search, 22 unregistered firearms, 148 grams of an unknown substance, believed to be cocaine, pills and numerous materials that could be used to make bombs were recovered.
According to Commissioner Ryder, "The materials in that house that were recovered by our arson bomb guys is enough to make six well-sized bombs that could have been used against the public."
Out of the 22 recovered firearms, 7 were assault weapons, 11 were handguns, and 4 were homemade revolvers.
Daniel Petrizzo, 33, Tiffany Pawson, 32 and Eddie Fernandez, 35 were arrested on charges, including counts of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance and reckless endangerment.
