20-Year Old Shot To Death On LIRR Train in Ronkonkoma
RONKONKOMA, NY - A 20-year old was shot and killed while on a Penn Station bound train in the Ronkonkoma train station early Wednesday morning.
Police say the victim, identified as Yusef Staine, was shot by a man in a hoodie who fled shortly after the shot was fired at around 1:45AM. Witnesses say the shooter appeared to be traveling with the victim on the westbound train.
Staine was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A male was seen running from the train”, according to officials at the Metropolitan Transit Authority.
Homicide Chief Kevin Beyrer stated that the shooting is not believed to be gang-related at this time. He also went on to say that it is early in the investigation, but the shooter and victim appeared to be traveling together. Beyrer told reporters that the shooting was not random in nature.
The Metropolitan Transit Authority and Suffolk County Police conducted a joint investigation on the shooting.
Wednesday morning commuters experienced delays due to the platform and train being completely shut down due to the ongoing police investigation.
There have been no arrests in this shooting yet, according to MTA officials.
