Massapequa Dentist Arrested For Arsenal of 20 Illegal Guns, 3000 Rounds
MASSAPEQUA, NY - A Massapequa dentist was arrested by officers in tactical gear at his home and dental office on Riviera Drive early Wednesday afternoon for possession of 20 illegal guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition.
Police were called to the dentist’s office at 4 Riviera Drive at around 1:50PM after an employee was approached by Paul Carey, 62, of 4 Riviera Drive. When the female employee looked up the staircase, she saw Carey in possession of a handgun. The employee left the scene and called 911.
With the assistance of the Bureau of Special Operations and Emergency Services Unit, police took Carey into custody without any incident. Carey was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation.
Upon a thorough investigation, Carey was found to be in possession of 20 illegal long guns, 18 of which are “ghost guns”, 7 silencers, 61 high capacity magazines, and approximately 3000 rounds of ammunition. Ghost guns are unregulated firearms that anybody can purchase and build without a background check.
Carey is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree and three (3) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree. He was arraigned on Thursday, February 17 at the First District Court.
