17-Year-Old Skateboarder Struck, Killed Near Long Island School

WESTBURY, NY - A 17-year-old riding a skateboard on Cantiague Lane was struck and critically injured by an SUV late Thursday afternoon. Police confirmed on Friday afternoon that the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say that at 2:26PM, the 17-year-old male victim was riding his skateboard westbound on Cantiague Lane near Robbins Lane near the Hicksville and Westbury border when he was struck by a 2012 Honda Pilot.

The Honda, operated by a 19-year-old male driver, was also traveling westbound. The driver remained at the scene of the crash.

The victim was transported to a local area hospital and is listed in critical condition, according to officials.

Officials confirmed on Friday afternoon that the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital as a result of injuries from the crash.

The investigation is still ongoing.

The crash occurred only a few blocks away from the Nassau BOCES Joseph M. Barry Career & Technical Center, located at 1196 Prospect Ave, Westbury, NY 11590. It is unclear if the victim was a student at the school.
