At least 8 were killed and hundreds were injured during a Travis Scott concert at the “AstroWorld” festival in Houston, Texas late Friday night.

Over two dozen victims were rushed to local hospitals in cardiac arrest after the crowd began to compress and push towards the front of the stage, causing many people to be trampled and sparked panic.

According to sources, approximately 300 people were treated for minor injuries and received emergency medical care at a field hospital that was set up as a result of the mass casualty event.

Out of 17 people who were transported in critical condition from the scene, 11 of them were actively having CPR performed on them. Among the injured was a 14-year-old boy who was trampled to death.

Hours prior to the event, hundreds of people were involved in rushing the gates of the event and causing panic. Security and law enforcement were able to get those individuals under control after they broke through barriers, trampled people, and climbed fences.

This is not the first time an AstroWorld festival ended in tragedy. In 2019, the trampling occurred when eager patrons rushed the barricades and fences.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said in a statement, "What happened at Astroworld Festival was a tragedy.  An estimated 50,000 people attended the event Friday night, expecting to enjoy a music concert with friends and return home safely. I extend my condolences to the families of the eight people who died and the approximately 17 people who were injured at the event. Many of them suffered cardiac arrest. Immediately following the tragedy, the city began to assist with resources and necessary support. A reunification center is setup at 8686 Kirby Dr. for families to reconnect with loved ones who attend the event. Families searching for loved ones may also call 3-1-1.

This was a major event that happened in the city and on Harris County property. Today, law enforcement will speak with concert promoters and witnesses and review videos available from the event and inside the festival venue.

I  have called for a detailed briefing from all stakeholders, including Live Nation, Harris County, NRG Park, Police, Fire, Office of Emergency Management, and other agencies, explaining how the event got out of control leading to the deaths and injuries of several attendees."

The AstroWorld festival’s second day has been completely canceled according to event organizers.
