18-Year Old Charged With DWI In Fatal Christmas Crash
An 18-year old was arrested at the scene of a fatal crash after his vehicle exited the roadway, striking two pedestrians and a pedestrian crossing sign in Islip, New York just before 3PM on Christmas Day.
At 2:47PM, the Islip Fire Department and Suffolk County Police responded to the Pinebrook Apartment Complex at 2455 Union Boulevard in Islip, New York for reports of a 2004 Honda Pilot that struck two pedestrians walking on a sidewalk, an unoccupied car, and a pedestrian crossing sign, according to the Suffolk County Police.
A yellow sheet covered the body of a man who was struck and killed by the SUV. Police identified the man killed as Luis Trujillo, 67, of Islip. The second pedestrian, a woman, was transported urgently in critical condition with serious injuries to South Shore University Hospital. She has been identified as Veronica Deleon, 47, of Brentwood.
The driver of the vehicle, whose identity has not been released yet, was arrested at the scene of the fatal crash for Driving While Intoxicated. He sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to South Shore University Hospital. He was released from the hospital and arraigned at the First District Court in Islip on December 26th.
The Honda Pilot driven by the Bay Shore teen was impounded for further investigation.
