Woman Carrying 1-Year-Old Struck By Pickup Truck On Jericho Turnpike

JERICHO, NY - A woman carrying a 1-year-old child was struck and critically injured by a pickup truck traveling westbound on Jericho Turnpike in front of the Jericho Shopping Office Plaza late Wednesday morning.

Nassau County Police Department’s Homicide Squad Detectives are investigating the events that led up to a 62-year-old woman and 1-year-old child being struck by a pickup truck on Jericho Turnpike at the intersection of Aintree Road in Jericho, New York.

Officials say that at 9:17AM on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, the woman, who was carrying the young child, was crossing Jericho Turnpike going northbound at Aintree Road when they were struck by a 2015 Ford pickup truck that was traveling westbound on Jericho Turnpike. The crash occurred in front of the Jericho Shopping Office Plaza.

The woman suffered serious head and torso trauma, according to investigators. She was urgently transported to a local area hospital and is now listed as being in a critical condition.

The 1-year-old child that the woman was carrying suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to a local area hospital.

The 32-year-old driver of the Ford pickup truck remained at the scene of the collision.

The investigation is still currently ongoing, according to Nassau County Police.

Jericho Turnpike remained partially closed during the police investigation into the tragic crash. Only a single lane of traffic in the westbound direction was allowed through, causing moderate traffic build-up during the morning rush hour. The eastbound lane remained unaffected. The crime scene was broken down and traffic was allowed to continue through the intersection of Aintree Road and Jericho Turnpike uninterrupted at around 12:00PM. Traffic has since resumed back to normal in the area.
