Woman Assaults Detectives With Traffic Cone In Freeport

Detectives conducting an active investigation on Queen Street in Freeport, New York were interrupted by a traffic cone-wielding woman on December 10th.

Police say Daysi Sanchez Martinez, 19, residing at 47 Queen Street in Freeport, approached detectives who were in the process of an investigation at her residence while holding an orange traffic cone. Martinez swung the cone at a detective and struck him, causing an injury to his left arm.

After a brief struggle with the suspect, detectives were able to place her under arrest. There were no other reported injuries, according to police.

Martinez is charged with two counts of Assault 2nd Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest and Harassment 2nd Degree. She was arraigned on Sunday, December 11, at the First District Court.
