Tanker Truck Crashes, Narrowly Misses Crashing Into Merrick Tile Store

MERRICK, NY - A tanker truck crashed into a parked car and stopped only feet away from a tile store on Sunrise Highway early Monday morning.

The crash was reported to 911 just after 5AM on Monday morning after a tanker truck left Sunrise Highway and collided with a parked car near the intersection of Lansdowne Avenue and Sunrise Highway in Merrick, New York. The truck took down powerlines as it crashed, stopping only feet from a Merrick business.

Two people were taken to local area hospitals with unknown injuries as a result of the crash.

As of 9AM, the truck full of gasoline was being offloaded so that it could be towed. Heavy delays are still ongoing throughout the area.

This crash comes only weeks after another tanker truck overturned and exploded, causing heavy damage to businesses in Rockville Centre, New York.
