Shooter Identified In Fatal Hempstead Shooting

HEMPSTEAD, NY - A 911 call about shots fired led police to find a 49-year old man shot multiple times near Peninsula Boulevard and Sewell Street in Hempstead, New York late Sunday night.

Police arrived near the intersection of Peninsula Boulevard and Sewell Street at around 10:55PM and found the 49-year old man laying on the ground with multiple apparent gunshot wounds.

The victim, identified as Santos Valeriano Argueta, 49, from Hempstead, was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after by hospital staff.

Police identified the shooter as Deshawn Martin, 25, of 46 Covert Street in Hempstead and arrested him on February 9, 2022 at 12:40pm in Freeport.

Martin is charged with Murder 1st Degree and was arraigned on February 10, 2022 in the First District Court in Hempstead, New York.
