Reported Shots Fired At LIU Post, Reports Unfounded

BROOKVILLE, NY - A heavy police response was seen at LIU Post college early Wednesday afternoon after reports of shots fired on the campus. Those reports were confirmed to be unfounded by police.

Shortly after 3:00PM, the Brookville Police Department and Nassau County Police Department responded to reports of multiple shots fired on the campus of LIU Post. According to witnesses, multiple loud bangs were heard, which sparked panic in the area of Post Hall.

Responding police officers and Campus Public Safety set up a perimeter and conducted a room-to-room search of the building to ensure that there were no victims or evidence of shots fired.

At around 3:50PM, LIU Post sent out an alert to parents, faculty, and students regarding an update on the situation on campus. “Brookville Police Department has indicated that reports of shots fired are unfounded. Police remain on campus and will provide additional updates when possible.”

At around 4:25PM, a final update was sent out by LIU Post regarding the incident. “The Brookville Police Department has advised that the situation is all clear. Students may return to Post Hall.”

The campus was temporarily locked down as a result of the report. The lockdown has since been lifted.
