BAYPORT, NY - Suffolk County Police arrested a Deer Park man for unlawfully fleeing from a traffic stop late Wednesday night. Police officers discovered that the man’s license was suspended 40 times.

Police officers with the Suffolk County Police Department pulled over Jemel Edwards, 35, of Deer Park at 10:55PM at Broadway Avenue on the Route 27 Service Road. Officials say when the officer stepped out of his patrol car, Edwards took off heading southbound on Nicolls Road. The officer did not pursue the car, but put the information of the vehicle over the radio.

Shortly after Edwards took off, Suffolk County Police 5th Precinct officers responded to Terrace Road in Bayport, New York for a 911 call when they spotted his 2000 Nissan Altima parked nearby. Police arrested Edwards at 12:02AM and that’s when they determined that he had 40 suspensions on his driver’s license.

Edwards was charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer 3rd Degree, Operating a Vehicle without an Interlock Device, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 2nd Degree, as well as eight other NYS vehicle and traffic violations.
