A large police presence was seen at the crime scene established in front of Tri-County Bazaar after a pickup truck slammed into an occupied bus stop. Two women, 45-years-old and 18-years-old were injured as a result. At least one victim was transported to Nassau University Medical Center with a police escort due to the severity of their injuries.

According to witnesses who saw the crash happen, at least half a dozen good samaritans ran into action to help save a person who was pinned underneath the roof of the bus shelter immediately after the crash. Those bystanders quickly lifted the roof that fell on top of one of the women and rendered first aid to both victims who were seriously injured.

Surveillance video from a nearby store shows that the driver of the pickup truck lost control after attempting to close his driver door that flung open while exiting the Tri County Bazaar parking lot. During that time, the vehicle can be seen veering off the road and slamming into the two women waiting for the bus quietly in front of 3041 Hempstead Turnpike, just west of Grassy Lane.

Both women who were struck by the truck are in a serious condition and undergoing surgery as a result of the injuries sustained. The driver of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries as well. All victims involved are listed in a critical, but stable condition at this time.

Hempstead Turnpike going westbound has since reopened without any delays.
