Motorcyclist Killed In Crash With Verizon Work Van

PLAINVIEW, NY - A motorcyclist was killed after a crash with a Verizon work van on South Oyster Bay Road in front of the Plainview Centre shopping center on Tuesday morning.

Nassau County Police say that a 33-year-old motorcyclist riding a 2009 Yamaha motorcycle suffered critical injuries after a collision with a Chevrolet Verizon work van at 7:40AM on Tuesday.

Investigators determined that the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on South Oyster Bay Road when the Verizon van made a left turn in front of the motorcycle from the Plainview Centre parking lot, attempting to head southbound on South Oyster Bay Road.

Police say that the motorcyclist suffered serious head and chest injuries after crashing into the side of the van. He was transported to a local area hospital, where he was eventually pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The driver of the Verizon van was uninjured and remained at the scene of the crash.

Investigators conducted a brake and safety check on the van.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
